The Latvian Writers’ Union announces a new competition, offering a grant for publishing and promoting Latvian literature abroad. The competition is open for all foreign publishers wishing to publish literary works by Latvian authors in languages other than Latvian.

The competition is open for entries until February 6th of this year, 23:59 p.m., by filling the online application form which you may find below. All applications will be evaluated by a committee of experts – V.Zvaigzne, S. Kušnere, P.Jānkavs, Ž. Vēvere-Paskvalīni and E.Eglāja-Kristsone. Projects to be granted the financial support will be announced on March 2017.

The competition is a part of the three-year programme "Support for Foreign Publishers Publishing Latvian Literature" funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia and the State Culture Capital Foundation (SCCF). The aim of this programme is to ensure that the best and most competitive literature is accessible beyond the borders of Latvia.

The next grant competition for foreign publishers publishing Latvian literature abroad is scheduled for April 2017.

Application forms for publishers and translators are available HERE. Please note the names of sections! We kindly ask publishers from Great Britain to fill in the application form found under the “ENGLISH PUBLISHERS” section, and other publishers – under the “NON-ENGLISH PUBLISHERS” section.
