From 5th until 9th December, an international prose translation workshop is going to take place in Latvia as a part of the “Prose Readings” festival. Uldis Balodis, Mārta Ziemelis, Suzanne McQuade, Kaija Straumanis, Jayde Will and Žanete Vēvere-Pasqualini will be the key translators participating.
The workshop will be hosted by Alexandra Büchler, the director of the “Literature Across Frontiers” platform and an experienced tutor at various workshops, and Katharina Bielenberg, Associate Publisher and seasoned editor of “MacLehose Press”. During the workshop, translators will be working on their previously translated texts of various prose genres, discussing literary management issues like self-editing, finding and approaching the right publisher, as well as creation of synopses and other marketing materials. Among other activities, the translators will be meeting editors of various Latvian publishing houses and the Latvian Writers' Union Grant Programme coordinator Jeļena Budanceva. The workshop will conclude with a public debate about prose translation held in the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Latvia, Room 305, on 9th December, at 18:30 p.m.
Festival “Prose Readings” is celebrating its 21th anniversary this year. From 6th until 11th December, the festival will offer a series of reading of previously unpublished works or excerpts, as well as panel discussions, creative workshops and public book signing events. The texts will be judged by industry professionals as well as an alternative jury of students. Aside from the main programme, listeners will be treated with works by our guest authors from Lithuania, Estonia, Slovenia, Finland, Malta, and other countries.
