Kaija Straumanis has an MA in Literary Translation Studies from the University of Rochester. Her translations include High Tide by Inga Ābele (Open Letter Books, 2013), and Flesh-Coloured Dominoes by Zigmunds Skujiņš (Arcadia Books, 2014).
– received 2014 LaLiGaBa award (The Annual Latvian Literature Award) for notable contributions to Latvian literature in translation;
– in 2015, her translation of High Tide was awarded the 2015 AATSEEL Book Award for Best Translation into English (Creative Literature). She is currently the Editorial Director at Open Letter Books in Rochester, New York;
– in 2015, was awarded a project grant from the State Cultural Capital Fund of Latvia for her work on Santa Biblia by Inga Žolude;
