Valentīns Lukaševičs is a literary historian, critic and writer born in 1968 in Rēzekne, Latvia. He finished Rēzekne High School No. 5 and later studied theoretical physics in Saint Petersburg for two years and philosophy at the University of Latvia for one year. His further education, academic endeavours, life and work are linked with Daugavpils and Daugavpils University where he earned his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees (2008). Since 1993, he has been a faculty member at the Latvian Literature and Culture Department (Latviešu literatūras un kultūras katedra) at Daugavpils University. He has been writing fiction since 1989. Valentīns Lukaševičs is the author of numerous books, including the first Latgalian postmodern novel "Valerjana dzeive i redzīni” (1996) which he co-authored with Oskars Seiksts. He actively engages in journalism, creating TV and radio programmes, writing scripts, producing, and organizing literary and educational events. His research work mainly focuses on marginal literature, semiotics and versification issues, statistical literature, and literary processes on the borders and within ethnic minorities. He combines his scientific research with literary creative work. "Lukaševičs’ poetry looks for the source and nature of things, for archetypes, the contrasts of the ancient Biblical and medieval culture and the reminiscence of Latvian folklore, works of Rainis, Aleksandrs Čaks and other authors, with the realities of modern (starting with Soviet times) life, in a conscious pursuit and exploration of the most ancient linguistic layers," comments literary historian Ilona Salceviča.
